Blue Star FC on Monday defeated Uprising 1-0 in the ongoing Serrekunda East Nawetan played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

The Blue Star and Uprising encounter in Serrekunda East nawettan in previous years was never easy and always tense, and it attracted spectators from Serrekunda East and its environs for the local derby between the power-houses in Wellingara village.

Blue Star opened the tally through Alpha Jatta in the 55th minute of the game from Captain Abou Gaye’s excellent cross to send Blue Star fans into jubilation, which eventually proved to be the winner for them to snatch the maximum points.

Uprising responded quickly for an equalizer and came very close to levelling the scores through Salifu Badjie in the 69th minute of the game, but his effort was denied by Blue Star goalkeeper Ousainou Jaiteh.

Thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Blue Star.

It would be recalled it that Blue Star clinched the Serrekunda East knock-out trophy last season, following their excellent performance in the nawettan football championship.
