Technical Director of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) , Sang John Ndong, is currently in Cape Verde for Confederation of African Football (CAF) Strategy Conference.
Mr Ndong, a member of the CAF Technical and Development Committee, is participating in a week-long series of key technical meetings and discussions aimed at shaping football's technical growth across the continent.
The CAF Strategy Conference got underway in Santa Maria, Sal Island, Cape Verde, on Wednesday with the CAF Technical and Development Committee meeting, opening three days of discussions to shape the next phase of African football.
For the GFF, Ndong's presence at this high-level forum is significant.
As the Federation's Technical Director, his participation provides direct access to CAF's evolving technical blueprint, including stronger coaching structures, youth development, technical education, and sustainable football programmes identified as essential to improving competitiveness at every level.
The insights gained from the Conference are expected to directly benefit Gambian football development, from coach education and grassroots structures to youth national teams and long-term technical planning.
Recent figures underline the scale of CAF's investment in this area, with 19,685 coaches certified across Africa between 2021 and 2026, including coaches at CAF C, B, A and Pro Licence levels.
This is also an area central to the GFF's own development agenda as the CAF A' License Diploma Coaching course gains momentum in The Gambia.
The opening-day discussions are designed to look beyond immediate tournament results and consider the systems required to produce better players, stronger coaches, and more competitive national teams over the long term.
With the opening Technical and Development Committee meeting now underway.
Ndong's involvement ensures The Gambia is represented at the table where the practical steps for sustained success across the continent are being defined.
