Baby Mariam Jammeh Golf Tourney underway

President Jammeh's sponsored Baby Mariam Jammeh Golf Tournament organised by the Gambia Golf Association (GGA) got underway at the Fajara Golf Course on Friday.

The seven-day tournament which brought together both professional and amateurs golfers from different countries in Africa, America and Europe to the Fajara Golf Course, is expected to produce some exciting moments of golf competition.

The tournament kicked off on Friday in a form of practice, which is part of preparations of golfers before the commencement of the tournament proper.

On 13 February 2011, beginners and students of the Gambia Golf Academy played in an open competition.

The draw for the professional golf competition, has pitted different golfers in various groups, was held at the Fajara Golf Club yesterday.

Meanwhile, the professional golfers will today, Monday, set the ball rolling as fans look forward to witness what is sure to be another fantastic and lucrative golf prize tournament thanks to the involvement of the Gambian leader once again. 

In the juniors category of the open competition sponsored by Lady Njaimeh Jawara, Hamza Saleem emerged the winner while Pa Musa Ngum came out second place.

Meanwhile in the male category of the Gambia golf Academy competiton, Francis Gomez came out first position followed by Point Newspaper’s Cherno Omar Bobb who finished second position.

Another sports reporter in the person of Fatoumatta Saho, who work with the City Limits Radio made a remarkable performance and came out first to beat Nyaling Samateh.

All participants were awarded golf balls and glove.
