Three junior tennis champions: Dawda Kuyateh, Fabakary Drammeh and brother Buba Drammeh will be looking forward to defend their title as they look set to feature in the upcoming junior tennis championship, set to commence on Monday 5th April 2010, at the Lawn Tennis Courts in Bakau.
The trio were reported to have been crowned the champions of last year's junior tennis championship in their respective categories, ranging from under 10, 12 and 14. They could add another title to their names should they win another championship trophy.
The two-week junior tournament, which is not the first of its kind will be staged by the Gambia Lawn Tennis Association in three different categories, such as under 19, 12 and 14, to be held at the Independence Stadium's tennis court this Monday.
The championship, according to Lamin Drammeh, the Head Coach of beginners is purposely meant to encourage the youngsters as part of the association's efforts to attract mass participation in the minority game.
It will also present the participants with the unique opportunity to secure top rankings or positions in their respective categories.
Drammeh, who was speaking to Pointsport in an interview at his residence in Bakau New Town yesterday was however thankful to the President of the Gambia Lawn Tennis Association, Sheriff Jammeh and the association?s Secretary-General Philip Akibogun, who doubles as the Technical Director of the association for what he described as their continuous support in the development and promotion of lawn tennis in the country.
