When Nyillan Fye Frazer speaks about success, she does not begin with her title, achievements or professional milestones. She speaks about people - the children who gained access to education, the women who found opportunities, the young professionals who discovered their potential, and the communities transformed through collective effort.
For the General Manager of Global Properties, leadership is not simply about occupying a position; it is about creating pathways for others to rise.
Fye Frazer describes herself as “a global Gambian change maker shaped by two worlds”: the village classrooms of The Gambia and the academic institutions of the United States. These two experiences, she says, shaped her understanding of inequality and strengthened her commitment to making opportunities accessible to everyone.
“My life’s mission rests on one belief: every child deserves access to quality education,” she says.
That belief has guided a remarkable journey spanning nonprofit development, philanthropy, entrepreneurship and corporate leadership.
Before entering the real estate sector, Fye Frazer dedicated herself to community development, where she witnessed firsthand how education could transform lives. Through literacy programmes, scholarship initiatives and youth empowerment projects, she worked to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds had the tools needed to succeed.
One of the projects closest to her heart was her work with Sajuka School in Barra Village, where she designed a sustainability model aimed at empowering families and strengthening community ownership.
For Fye Frazer, education is not only about classrooms and books; it is about giving people the confidence and ability to shape their own future.
After nearly two decades abroad, she made a life-changing decision to return home.
“Returning home was not just relocation; it was a commitment to nation-building,” she reflects.
She returned with a wealth of international exposure, professional experience and a desire to contribute to The Gambia’s development. Her journey led her to Global Properties, a company she had previously worked with in the United States.
Her rise within the organisation reflects determination, adaptability and continuous growth. Starting in marketing, she later took on responsibilities in Human Resources and Administration, Public Relations and Business Development before becoming General Manager.
Each role, she says, prepared her for leadership.
“Every step has been intentional, connected by one passion: building systems that uplift people,” she explains.
However, reaching leadership positions as a woman came with challenges.
Fye Frazer recalls moments when she had to challenge stereotypes about women’s ability to lead, particularly assumptions that women are too emotional or too soft for high-level decision-making.
But rather than allowing those perceptions to define her, she chose to demonstrate leadership through results.
“Emotional intelligence is one of the strongest leadership tools,” she says. “Women bring innovation, empathy and collaboration qualities that strengthen institutions.”
Today, she is using her position to create more opportunities for women within Global Properties and beyond. She believes that companies have a responsibility to intentionally support women through recruitment, mentorship, leadership development and equal opportunities.
“Empowering women is not charity; it is smart economics,” she says.
Under her leadership, Global Properties has increased the participation of women within its workforce and leadership pipeline, while supporting women-led initiatives and creating opportunities for young professionals.
Beyond corporate leadership, Fye Frazer sees property ownership as a powerful tool for women’s empowerment.
“A woman who owns property gains stability, dignity and economic confidence,” she says. “Homeownership is not just about having a house; it is about creating security and generational wealth.”
She encourages women to begin their journey towards ownership by taking small but consistent steps saving, planning and exploring available opportunities.
“Homeownership is a journey, not a one-time event,” she says.
Despite her demanding career, Fye Frazer continues to prioritise family, personal growth and community service. She credits her husband and family for providing support and grounding her throughout her journey.
She also draws inspiration from travel, the ocean and personal development teachings, including the wisdom of leadership speaker Jim Rohn.
Among her proudest moments was receiving recognition from the U.S. Department of State for one of the top ten citizen diplomacy projects in America an honour she says validated the power of grassroots change.
But for Fye Frazer the greatest reward remains the impact created through service.
“I want to be remembered not just as someone who built projects, but as someone who built people,” she says.
As Global Properties continues expanding its housing developments, including apartments, villas, townhouses and mixed-use communities, Fye Frazer hopes her leadership will inspire more Gambian women to believe in their ability to lead.
Her message to women and girls is clear: “Your voice is your power. Invest in yourself. Your dreams are valid. Do not fear failure; fear standing still. Leadership is not perfection; it is purpose.”
Nyillan Fye Frazer’s journey is a reminder that leadership can begin anywhere from village classrooms to global boardrooms. Through education, resilience and service, she is proving that when women rise, communities rise with them.
