Surely you have met people who consider themselves morally correct. They are quick to transmit that they do not smoke at all neither do they drink alcohol, steal, backbite nor commit adultery or fornication. They say these things with a shrug on their shoulders that signifies they are not sinners.
We sin in thought, word and in deed. So no one except our Lord Jesus qualifies to speak in that manner.
Apostle Paul captures this in his letter to the Romans. We are all sinners who need the saving grace of Jesus, the Christ! "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are freely justified by His grace through the redemption - being set free from evil - that came by Jesus Christ." (Romans 3:23-24) In other words, it is through the finished work of Jesus Christ that we will make it to heaven. He is the Only Way.
"All our righteous acts are like filthy rags;" (Isaiah 64:6) unfit to get us into heaven.
We are saved only when we admit our sinful nature. "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified (made right), and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:10)
Today, take off your robe of 'self-righteousness and seek God. Remember it is by His grace (goodness) that we can access heaven. "And if by grace, then it is no longer by works (deeds), if it were, grace will no longer be grace." (Rmns 11:6)
Grace is not earned. It is freely given by Jesus.
