The young, yet spontaneous and hardworking athlete said it feels so surreal but yet a blessing that she will be representing The Gambia at the Olympics. According to her, not many people can say they are going to the Olympics to even represent their country.
“I am honoured to show the world where I am from and what we are about,” added Sanu who had the opportunity to also represent the United States of America.
“Deciding which country to represent was actually pretty hard but after a long conversation with my parents we were able to come to a decision to represent my home country,” said the studious athlete.
She said that her preparation has been going great and that she was working hard to make sure all errors are fixed.
“I do not believe there are any challenges but you never know what could happen. The biggest challenge is staying motivated,” she said.
The US based Gambian long distance runner broken the 800 meters national record with a time of 1:59:29.
She was running for her Arkansas College women’s track and field team which also won its second consecutive NCAA indoor championship in May this year at New Balance in Boston.
With this performance, she gained Olympic Games qualification.
In January, San ran the third fastest collegiate time ever to win her first race of the season in the 600m with a time of 1:26.52.

2023: Indoor - At the Arkansas Invitational, clocked 1:30.32 for fourth place and took part on the 4x400m team that earned fourth in 3:43.28.
She won the 400m B section at the TTU Red Raider Open, running 54.40, while also running on the 4x400m team that won in 3:31.34.
She also registered a 2:07.15 in the 800m at the Razorback Invitational, becoming the eighth best performer in Texas A and M history.
She took part on the 4x400m team clocking 3:29.92.
At the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, ran a season best 53.52 in the 400m.
She improved her personal best in the 800m at the David Hemery Valentine Invite, running 2:06.99 to better her No. 8 mark in school history.
She ran 2:07.91 at the SEC Indoor Championships to finish 14th overall.
Outdoor - Ran a personal best 53.15 and placed third in the 400m at the Trojan Invite.
At the Island Relays Bahamas, placed fourth in the 400m clocking a 53.35.
She finished second and ran a personal best 2:05.68 in the 800m at the 63rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays.
At the SEC Outdoor Championships, placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:05.96, clocking a 2:06.49 in the 800m to place fourth at The 40th Victor Lopez Classic.
She ran on the 4x400 relay team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships finished second with a time of 3:26.12.
At the NCAA West Preliminary Round, ran on the 4x400 relay team clocking a 3:28.15 to place fourth.
She earned first place on the 4x400 relay team at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a time of 3:26.64.
At the LSU Alumni Gold, placed first on the 4x400 relay team clocking a 3:28.42.
She ran on the 4x400 relay team at the 63rd Annual Mt.SAC Relays placing second in 3:25.79.
At the Trojan Invite, clocked 3:26.58 in the 4x400 relay to place first.
At the Pepsi Florida Relays, placed first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:28.41.
With a time of 3:35.95 in the 4x400 relay to place first at The 40th Victor Lopez Classic.
She earned first place at the Island Relays Bahamas clocking a 3:34.10 in the 4x400 relay.
She also Won the state title in the 200m and 400m outdoor and 500m and 55m indoor in 2022 State champ in the outdoor 800m in 2021 and won the 500m indoor title in 2019.
She won the Millrose 600m.
She personal bests: 100m - 11.88, 200m - 24.1, 400m - 53.1, 800m - 2:07.7.
Her Favorite food is pasta and enjoys being outside and time with her family.
She plans to major in sports management.
