Medina Utd crowned FF Cup champions

Medina United were on Friday 12th July 2024 crowned champions of the 2023-2024 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) FF Cup competition. 

They defeated TMT 3-2 on post-match penalty shootout after regular time ended goalless in a nail biting final played at the Live Your Dreams Sports Academy at Basori. 

 Utility player Modou Lamin Camara could have opened the scoring for TMT FC in the 16th minute of the match but his brilliant header was denied by the cross bar.

Striker Modou Jarju’s near post shot in the 27th minute of the match was incredible saved by TMT FC’s custodian Ebrima Jaiteh.

The FF final was graced by high prominent football enthusiasts, including the president of Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Lamin Kaba Bajo and other dignitaries.

 As champions, Medina United were awarded gold medals, a giant trophy and a cheque amounting to D500, 000 while TMT FC received silver medals and a cheque amounting to 300.000 as runners-up.

Head coach of Medina United, Alieu Jagne, stated that the match was very tough, adding that TMT is a first division Club.

‘‘We gave TMT FC respect and play our normal tactics.

"We miss all our chances and we won the match on penalties.

‘‘Medina United are a young team; the atmosphere around the stadium was a factor and are not used to crowd" Coach Jagne pointed out.

Head coach of TMT FC, Alieu Colley, revealed that his team prepared well for the final but lost to Medina United on the post-match penalty shootouts.
