‘Gov’t appointed Coach Saintfiet but GFF disbursed his salary’

The Secretary General of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Lamin M. Jassey, has stated that The Gambia government had appointed Tom Saintfiet as the head coach of the country’s senior national team but the GFF paid his salaries.

Jassey was speaking to Q Radio Bright Sports programme yesterday, Thursday, 26th April 2024.

‘‘The Gambia government appointed Tom Saintfiet as the Scorpions head coach but the GFF paid his salary,’’Jassey said.

Jassey revealed that it is the responsibility of government to fund the country’s national team.

He further revealed that it is not the mandate of the GFF to disburse the salary of the country’s national team coach.

‘‘Thirty (30) minutes after Tom Saintfiet announced his resignation as The Gambia senior national team coach, coaches start filing their applications for the vacant Scorpions coach position,’’ Jassey pointed out.

Jassey stated that ninety-five applicants filed their applications for the vacant Gambia senior national team coach position.

He further stated that former Arsenal duo Saul Campbell and Kolo Toure are among the applicants for the vacant Scorpions coach position.

Jassey pointed out that The Gambia U-23 team Abdou Jammeh alias T. Boy is also among the applicants for the vacant Gambia senior national team coach position.

He further pointed out that the new coach for The Gambia senior national team would be announced after the completion of interviews.
