The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) on Saturday held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Olympic House along Bartil Harding Highway.

The AGM suffered set backs in December 2023 and March 2024 respectively after stakeholders rejected the agenda regarding the inclusion of Hokay in the agenda items.

The AGM provided an opportunity for executive members to report on the past activities and adoption of resolutions.

This report outlines the GNOC's activities and achievements for the fiscal year ending in 2022, based on the calendar and budget approved by the GNOC General Assembly in January 2022.

In January 2022, the GNOC launched the Olympic Solidarity Scholarships for seven athletics and judo athletes based in France to prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 2022 Olympic Day, themed: ‘Move, Learn, and Discover’, featured activities like Basketball 3-on-3, Beach Volleyball, Beach Soccer, and Beach Handball.

Secretary General of GNOC, Yerro S. Njie, stated that The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is responsible for overseeing the operations and activities related to the Olympic movement in The Gambia.
He further stated that GNOC supported Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games qualification competitions and provided team support grants.

According to Njie, GNOC also provided continental athlete support grants to prepare athletes for international competitions.
Njie revealed that The Gambia participated in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with athletes in six disciplines such as athletics, beach Volleyball, boxing, judo, powerlifting and Swimming.

‘‘Visa delay caused some athletes to miss events, The Gambia secured a silver medal in Judo in first Commonwealth Games medal in 52 years,’’ Njie disclosed.

Njie disclosed that GNOC had provided financial and logistical support to various national sports associations, including athletics, judo, volleyball, karate, basketball, triathlon, badminton, boxing, cycling, cricket, taekwondo and softball.

‘‘This support enabled participation in international competitions and the organisation of national events.’’
