The classification for the championship is to commence on 18th May and finish on 25th May 2026.
The Gambia comprises two (2) representatives, notably Para Powerlifters Ali Kah and Trainer Babacar Jobe.
The duo will represent the nation at the prestigious competition expected to attract some of the best athletes across Africa and beyond.
Team Gambia last Wednesday left Banjul International Airport for Algeria to participate in the continent's elite powerlifting championship.
The championship is set to feature twenty-three( 23) countries.
Host nation Algeria, Morocco, Ghana, Keyna, Egypt and The Gambia are all set to participate in the para- powerlifting competitions.
Team Gambia heads to the championship for the first-time after the death of top Gambian Para Powerlifter Modou Gamo, who featured in the debut competition in 2018.
Ali Kah, The Gambia’s only participant to write his name in one of the famous para sport in the world (Powerlifting) when he completed in the 49kg.
President of The Gambia National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Sulayman Colley, urged the team to boldly compete as nation return to Africa’s elite championship.
The African Open Para Powerlifting Championship is set to start on 21st and finish on 24th May 2026.
The athletes will compete in different weight categories.
