Fajikunda wins SESDO women nawetan trophy

Fajikunda ‘nawetan’ team clinched the first-ever Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) organised women nawettan tournament following their 3-2 post-match penalty shootouts win over Nema FC after regulation time ended 1-1 in a mouth-watering clash played at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium on Friday.

Fajikunda nawetan team took the lead through the Gambia Police Force forward Jabou Jabarteh during the first half while Nema FC leveled matters through Berewuleng full back Nyima Sanneh.


This pushed the match into post-match penalty shootouts which ended 3-2 in favour of FajiKunda FC.
As champions, FajiKunda FC received a giant trophy and cash prize of D5000, while Nema FC received a consolation prize of D3000 as runners-up.
Speaking to waiting reporters after the game, Sulayman Sanyang, head coach of FajiKunda FC, applauded his players for their “brilliant fight” during the course of the competition.
Sanyang thanked the people of FajiKunda for their trust in handing him the team.
He also thanked Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation for organising the women nawetan competition.
Mariama Dukanda, head coach of Nema FC, said they came all out to win the trophy, adding that they had the opportunity to win the game but did not take their chances.
