Mr Faye, who made the remarks in an interview with Afri Radio’s Lamin ‘Del’ Federa, added that there has not been major rehabilitation work at the stadium since its construction in 1983.
“If you go around the world, you will see how stadiums are structured in their fittings and features. Everything has now moved in a totally different way," he stated.
According to him, he even raised issue of the stadium when CAF first wrote to The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) about the stadium in 2014.
“We raised the issue with government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports but nothing was done. We need to thank the current minister and the government for raising such an amount for the renovation, saying that it is necessary to have a very good stadium worthy to play CAF A matches.”
He went on to say that anytime CAF sent a communiqué about the stadium, he would share it with the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He revealed that they had a very good meeting last week about the stadium renovation completion, while expressing hope that things would be sorted out within two months to get CAF approval for the November game.
He noted that The Gambia cannot be playing away from home all the time, adding that they have to be playing at home to also have the home support from fans.
