A new voice has emerged on The Gambia’s literary scene as Binta Nyangado officially launched her first two books in a well-attended event that brought together writers, educators and advocates.

The dual book launch, held on March 7 at the Alliance Française along Kairaba Avenue, marked the debut of Nyagado’s publications titled The Radiant Thrivers: Dismantling Toxic Dynamics and Fragile Barriers.

The event attracted prominent figures within the literary and social development space, including Cherno Umar Barry, President of the Writers Association of The Gambia, as well as author and educator Musa Bah.

Also in attendance were Isatou Gaye, Augustina Ugbana, Sophia Manneh, Daniel J Mendy, and Bisenty Gomez, among others.

In his review of the books, Cherno Umar Barry described the publications as timely and relevant, noting that they tackle important social and personal issues affecting individuals and communities.

He commended the author for her bold approach in addressing themes around personal growth, toxic relationships and self-awareness.

Declaring the books officially launched, Bisenty Gomez praised Nyagado’s effort and vision, urging greater support for emerging writers in the country.

He noted that such initiatives contribute to the development of literature and intellectual discourse in The Gambia.

Other speakers, including Augustina Ugbana and Sophia Manneh, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of creating platforms that encourage young authors, particularly women, to share their voices and experiences.

Family members and supporters of the author also expressed pride in her achievement, describing the launch as a significant milestone.

Speaking at the event, Nyagado emphasised the core message behind her books, stressing the importance of individuals confronting personal challenges and taking responsibility for their lives.

She noted that failure to address personal issues often leads to prolonged struggles, adding that both books are intended to inspire readers to reflect, grow and make positive changes.

These books are about self-awareness and responsibility, she said. They are meant to encourage people to take charge of their lives and contribute positively to their communities.

The double publication positions Nyagado among a growing number of young Gambian writers contributing to the country’s literary landscape.
