Guizhou University is a leading academic institution in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and a partner of the University of The Gambia.
Currently, the two institutions partnered to promote inter-cultural activities and students exchange visits. In recognition of its 120th anniversary as a center of academic excellence, UTG deems it fitting to stage an event showcasing a display of Gambian culture and cocktail party.
Prof. Momodou Jain, deputy Vice Chancellor- Academics at the University of The Gambia, who represented the deputy Vice Chancellor, said that it is high time for Gambians to endeavor to speak chinese as there are many opportunities that students can tap from China.
Prof Jain expressed optimism that the future for Gambians is bright in view of the fact that many young students have developed keen interest in learning Chinese.
He further urged parents to encourage their children to learn as many languages as it would help them in connecting with people from different countries.
For his part, Zhou Ningyu's, counselor at Chinese embassy and representative of the Ambassador, explained that the establishment of the Confucius Institute at UTG in 2019 is a milestone achievement in promoting exchange visits and strengthening cooperation between China and The Gambia in the fields of culture and education.
He also explained that the Confucius Institute at UTG provides a good opportunity and platform for Gambian students to learn Chinese language and culture.
“Guizhou University makes great contributions to the development of CI-UTG. Over the past three years, Guizhou University has sent outstanding teachers and volunteers to the CI-UTG.
Counselor Zhou Ningyu assured that the embassy is committed to working with the government and people of The Gambia to expand exchange visits as well as cooperation in various fields.
This, he added, would also help promote China-Gambia relations and contribute to building China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
