Ahead 2025 Paris Nutrition Summit; Roadmap for Journalists & Communicators designed

This development was made on Friday 31st January 2025 via a webinar platform organised by the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Secretariat/ Dakar hub in collaboration with Expertise France designed for journalists and communicators from West and Central Africa.

The main objective of the webinar was to initiate a common regional approach to influence African governments towards the adoption of SMART nutritional policy, programmatic and financial commitments for the next Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit 2025.

Among other objectives of the event was to mobilise the media sector to lobby West and Central African governments to adopt SMART nutrition commitments during the N4G Summit. The adoption of a regional roadmap outlining a common approach to help them achieve the objective followed the end of the webinar discussions.

The day’s session was attended by high-level participation of Mrs. Afshan Khan (SUN movement coordinator), H.E. Mr. Brieuc Pont (France's special envoy on nutrition and secretary-general of the N4G Summit), and the European Union Commission.

Meanwhile, the roadmap indicates actions to be taken before the N4G summit by journalists and communicators, actions to be taken during the N4G Summit and final actions to be undertaken after the N4G summit by journalists and communicators.

Expected outcome expected before the N4G summit by journalists and communicators include to carry journalistic production in several forms which include interviews, briefing, net, report, forum, roundtable and file.

The roadmap indicates activities to be taken during the N4G summit by journalists and communicators include written production on the summit and the commitments made by the countries of West and Central Africa. These include formats of briefing, report and interview.

Also, stakeholders at the webinar concluded the roadmap indicating further activities to be taken by journalists and communicators after the N4G summit which includes debriefing meeting between journalists and communicators.

These activities, members believe, is to discuss the productions made by journalists, the impact obtained through advocacy and agree on the mechanism for monitoring N4G commitments and other commitments in collaboration with the SUN Secretariat and Expertise France, which is set for Mid-April 2025.
