According to a medical report from the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), Musa has been diagnosed with Rheumatic Heart Disease, a condition that has caused severe mitral valve regurgitation and mild aortic valve regurgitation. The report, also states that Musa has been experiencing episodes of palpitations and dizziness, particularly during prayer, for the past three weeks.
“On examination, the patient had a pansystolic murmur at the apical area radiating to the left axilla, graded as 3,” the report stated. Despite being alert and stable with normal vital signs, his cardiac evaluation raised serious concerns.
An echocardiogram confirmed the severity of Musa's condition, prompting a recommendation for valvular replacement surgery, a procedure not currently available in The Gambia.
Musa is currently on medication, including Penicillin, Frusemide, Enalapril, Spironolactone, and Carvedilol to manage his condition. However, doctors warn that surgery is essential to prevent life-threatening complications.
His family is now calling on individuals, organisations, and the government to help raise the necessary funds for overseas treatment.
