Mr Ceesay hosted the UTGSU delegation at his office in Kotu on Tuesday, July 14, where both sides discussed potential areas of partnership ahead of the Students’ Week 2026, an annual flagship event organised by the students’ body.
The engagement followed a recent visit by the students to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, where they were received by Minister Abdoulie Jobe, who encouraged collaboration between stakeholders to support youth initiatives that showcase The Gambia’s cultural identity.
During the meeting, the UTGSU executives and the TDRGP leadership explored ways of strengthening collaboration to make the upcoming Students’ Week a platform for celebrating Gambian traditions, arts and cultural diversity.
Mr Ceesay commended the students for their initiative in promoting local heritage and creating opportunities for young people to engage with the country’s cultural assets.
He assured the delegation of the project’s willingness to support the cultural components of the event, noting the important role young people play in preserving and promoting national identity.
The TDRGP Director highlighted that empowering youth through cultural and creative initiatives aligns with broader efforts to diversify The Gambia’s tourism sector beyond traditional offerings.
The UTGSU representatives expressed appreciation for the support and partnership, describing the collaboration as an important step towards making Students’ Week 2026 a memorable celebration of Gambian culture, creativity and heritage.
The planned event is expected to bring together students, artists, cultural practitioners and stakeholders to showcase the country’s traditions while creating a platform for youth engagement and innovation.
