The equipment donated includes laptops, medicines, lab equipment and testing kits among others.
Presenting the items, Ms Victoria Lissong Richards-Ohwotu, founder of Sunu Reew Medical Mission, explained that the move was inspired by his mom, who was ill and told her to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable.
“My mother in her sick bed told me to link arms, but I had to find the right arms to link because not everybody that gives you that arm is a good one. That was when I decided to regroup and come back stronger and that has been the driving force.”
She pointed out that the reason they decided to donate to the hospital was because they do not have examination rooms in the hospitals.
“We, our patients don't have a space to speak about what's going on and that's the problem for us all. If a patient comes to you, you want to hear their story. However, if they're scared or the environment doesn't allow you to do that, then there goes misdiagnosis,” he added.
For his part, Dr Cherno S. Jallow, Deputy Chief Medical Director who doubles as head of Department of Surgery at the hospital, expressed gratitude to the donors and calleds for continuous support and collaboration.
“Having partners joining us is always welcoming. Our main task is to provide valuable and affordable services to the Gambian people. And then, as such, what we could do is to make sure the things we do are revolving. Then if we are running a radiology, we want to ensure it's revolving, and our labs are revolving.”
The equipment, he added, will be very valuable to the hospital, it will make our job easy and accessible for Gambians. We want this to be continuous for easy medical provision to Gambians.”
Dr Charles Roberts SR, Consultant General Surgeon at EFSTH, also thanked the donors for the gesture,
He expressed optimism that some of the gaps will be closed due to the handful donation.
