Qatari philanthropist donates, sugar, rice, oil to 238 households

The beneficiary communities include; Pakalinding, Jenoi, Toniataba and Si-Kunda villages. The commodities were donated through one Alieu Manjang, a native of Pakalinding village, who is currently in the Diaspora and implemented by Pakalinding Village Development Committee.

The gesture, which has now become an annual affair by the Qatari philanthropist, is part of complementing the efforts of the beneficiary communities in addressing some of the most pressing issues especially in the Holy month of Ramadan.

Ansumana Kinteh, coordinator of the programme dwelled on the significance of the gesture, saying the donated items are commodities that the beneficiary families need especially at a time when Muslims are fasting. He commended the donors for their benevolence. “Such kind of gesture will continue to put smile on the faces of the beneficiaries.”

Kinteh reminded Muslims to be generous and increase the culture of ‘caring and sharing’ during the month of Ramadan.

“Giving charity is an important part of Islam values and is even more significant during Ramadan. Many people will be fasting and will find it difficult to have good meals to end their fast with. The entire world was hit with the pandemic which has affected almost every sector; hence people are struggling to rebuild their economy. Therefore, this gesture has come at the right time.” he said

The gesture from the Qatari philanthropist, he said, started last year and this year it has grown bigger and bigger in terms of the number of communities and households that benefited from the items.

“Last year, the donated items were purposely for Pakalinding village. However, this year we decided to practice good neighborliness by inviting a group of people from other satellite villages, who also are needy people. We want to sincerely thank Alieu Manjang through whom the donation is made possible and to the philanthropist and donors who made it possible. Ramadan is a month of compassion and it’s also a month of giving out charity to needy people. We want to assure them that the items will be donated accordingly based on the neediest families.”     

Fabakary Fatty, a beneficiary and a native of Toniataba village stated: “I can tell you that the importance of the donated items to us can’t be over-emphasised. This has come at a time when most of us the beneficiary families are struggling in order to provide Iftar meals to our families. Therefore, I want to enormously thank the donors for the gesture and urge other people in the country to emulate the donors in helping Muslims.” 

Fatoumatta Conteh of Si-Kunda village also expressed appreciation for the support and prayed for the donors, “This donated items are commodities that are highly needed.”
