Public Enterprises Committee holds retreat to finalise 2021 SOEs oversight report

The Standing Committee on Public Enterprises of the National Assembly recently convened a three-day retreat from, 23–25th May 2025, in Kartong, West Coast Region,  (WCR) to review and adopt its draft Annual Report on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for the year ended 31st December 2021.

In accordance with its constitutional and Standing Order mandate, specifically Sections 109, 175 (4) and (5) of the 1997 Constitution and Standing Orders 97 and 122, the Committee is tasked with monitoring the efficiency, transparency and financial discipline of public enterprises through the review of their annual activity and audit reports.

Speaking at the convergence, Hon. Lamin J. Sanneh, the Chairperson of the Committee, stressed the importance of the exercise in ensuring that public enterprises uphold accountability and financial probity. “This retreat is essential for refining our findings and reaching consensus on the recommendations we will table before the plenary. It reflects our commitment to strong legislative oversight and sound public sector governance,” he said.

“The Committee worked intensively to consolidate its observations into a comprehensive report that will be presented to the National Assembly plenary for consideration and adoption. The final report will also be communicated to relevant stakeholders and followed up to track implementation of the Committee’s recommendations.”

The retreat brought together Committee Members: Hon. Salif Jawo, Hon. Almameh Gibba, Hon. Abdoulie Njai, Hon. Samba Jallow, and Hon. Ebrima Jaiteh and support staff, including officials from the National Audit Office (NAO) and the National Assembly Committee Secretariat, Research, and ICT units.
