Police target public nuisance in Abuko Abattoir operation as 5 suspects arrested

The Gambia Police Force, through its Bundung and Tallinding Divisions, carried out a targeted operation on Wednesday, 11 December 2025, around the Abuko Abattoir as part of ongoing preventive policing efforts. The initiative aims to restore public order, safeguard livelihoods, and address petty criminal activities in the area.

The intervention followed sustained complaints from residents, traders, and abattoir users regarding loitering, disorderly conduct, and incidents of petty theft.

Arrests and Court Proceedings

On Tuesday, 10 December 2025, five individuals were arrested at the Abuko Abattoir for allegedly causing public nuisance. They were subsequently detained at the Tallinding main Police Station pending legal proceedings.

The accused are; Basiru Kandeh, of Abuko; Omar Cham, of Old Yundum; Ebrima Manneh, of Abuko; Ebrima Sillah, of Abuko, and Alpha Jallow, of Wellingara

On Wednesday, 11 December 2025, the suspects were arraigned before the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Her Worship Magistrate Mendy. The matter was adjourned to 22 December 2025 and remains before the court.

The Gambia Police Force has reiterated its commitment to tackling public nuisance and petty crime that disrupt public order and economic activity. Authorities have encouraged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by reporting suspicious behaviour, stressing that sustained community partnership is vital to maintaining safety and order within neighbourhoods.
