The items, were distributed to the Kanifing General and Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospitals, Ndemban, Bundung, Farafenni, Bansang, Bwiam, SZREC hospitals, and Tanka Tanka, a psychiatric hospital.
Additionally, an amount of D50,000 (fifty thousand dalasis) was also donated for the upkeep of the Kanifing General Hospital mortuary
At the presentation, Basiru Drammeh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Kanifing General Hospital, extended appreciation to the donors on behalf of the thousands of patients that would benefit from the items.
CEO Drammeh pointed out that the bedsheets would prevent patients from contracting some of the infections in the hospital and called on other philanthropists to contribute to complementing the government’s effort in the health care system.
He reminded that health is expensive and the government cannot do it alone, thus the need for greater collaboration.
Seedy Njie, Treasurer of the Pipeline Mosque Foundation, recalled that the foundation started donations to the hospital in 2010 with a sum of D10,000, saying after some time, the Emporium volunteered to complement the efforts of the foundation.
Mam Sait Njie, chairman of the foundation stated that the foundation is a community mosque and that they represent almost half a million around the mosque and they have been making donations for over 34 years.
Ahmad Ghanim Diab from the Emporium said he and his family were happy for the kind gesture to the people who needed it.
‘I believe that whatever you give, it is what you own. I told my children even if I am not around, they should continue the donation we have started.’Mr Ghanim Diab said.
Among the beneficiaries, Isatou Bah from SZRE Hospital thanked the donors for touching the lives of people who are in need, saying the bedsheets would prevent contamination of infections, among a host of others.
