The Njaboute Foundation, a Swedish/Gambian charity based in both Göteborg and The Gambia, is an organisation founded in 2017 in The Gambia and 2020 in Sweden with the sole aim of improving the living standards of women and girls in The Gambia.
In addition, the non-profit seeks to educate young girls and women on female health issues in order to reduce the spread of infectious diseases, while curbing harmful cultural practices and Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Speaking at the event, Abdoulie Baldeh, founder and chairperson, gave a detailed background of the foundation and some of their activities.
“From the outset, the aim of the foundation was to improve the lives of women and girls in the Gambia. The original focus of the charity was to provide counselling, basic sexual reproductive health services, maternal nutrition and postpartum care. Since then, we have increased the scope of our projects and become an international foundation.”
By improving the lives of women and girls in Gambia, Baldeh believes they aim to improve the lives of families across the country.
Mansa Jallow, a student and a volunteer of the Njaboute foundation, underscored the significance of the training, which he said, has helped in the development of his socialisation with people, while broadening his view on issues relating to family planning and human anatomy, most especially that of the women.
Another volunteer, Fatou Bah, emphasised the importance of the foundation on her career as an aspiring teacher, saying this has helped her to create awareness on some pertinent issues the foundation is promoting.
