They made the remarks last Friday when the National Assembly Select Committee on Regional Government visited the borehole site fully sponsored by the Mansakonko Area Council.
Musa Dibba, in his remarks on behalf of the village Alkalo commended Seedy K. Touray, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mansakonko Area Council for being the first and under whose tenure his community has clean drinking water.
Mr. Dibba added that the Council through Councillor Famara Saidykhan also embarked on road rehabilitation projects within the area.
“There was a time when vehicles could not ply the road to get to our village but the situation has changed,” he also added calling on Government to provide them with proper road networks.
He stated that the provision of the three water tanks have reduced many of their challenges which included common children’s illnesses due to drinking unhygienic water.
He also said that majority of their animals died especially during the raining season but noted that now even the animals are benefiting from the borehole.
During question and answer session between Council and NAMs, Member for Sabach Sanjal Hon. Alagie Babou Ceesay raised concerns on how Council provided contracts to companies as well as scholarship to its staffs.
He said they want to make a legacy of stopping Councils’ staffs from being sponsored by Council because once some of them complete their studies they abandon the Councils by taking up jobs somewhere else.
Hon. Ceesay also called on Council to improve the mobility and allowances of their councillors.
In responding to some of the concerns, Seedy K. Touray, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mansakonko Area Council called on NAMs to stop comparing councils in the country, noting they are the first Council to provide motorbikes to their councillors in the country.
He called on the Committee to invest in Councils to make sure they are able to maintain their staffs after completing their higher degrees.
