Living Children’s Academy at Old Jeshwang has held a mega inter-school competition geared towards nurturing talents, deepening a love of learning and reinforcing attachment to education among school children.

The occasion, held on Thursday, rallied teachers from across schools, educationists, students and education enthusiasts, who all embraced the event to witness the astonishing talents and skills among Gambian school children.

It brought together the lower and upper basic schools of Living Children’s Academy, those of Reverend J.C. Faye and Glory Baptist, all of whom sent worthy contestants who left the entire audience stunned at the end of the day.

The academic competition was divided into three segments: comprehension, reading and then spelling respectively.

For the comprehension part, children were tasked to read a passage and answer questions that sought to ascertain their comprehension levels.

The reading part entailed reading before the judges and audience. According to one of the judges, Mr Tunde Muyi Ogundimu, a veteran spelling bee competition coordinator, the contestants from these three schools were assessed based on pronunciation and clarity, among others. This was capped with hot spelling sessions.

Ultimately, overall, Glory Baptist emerged first. Living Children's Academy occupied the second position, and Reverend J.C. Faye Lower and Upper Basic placed third.

The occasion concluded with the presentation of prizes, which included books and other valuable educational paraphernalia, to the exceptional students by the principal of Living Children’s Academy, Mr Arnold T. Sowah.

Principal Sowah expressed elation over the successful occasion, commending the schools for taking part. He equally hailed the students for their courage and dedication to learning.
