Tuesday 8th November 2022 is expected to bring together district chief, village alkolos, community elders and leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, religious leaders and other key stakeholders from Kombo East, Central, South and North to discuss issues around peace.
District chief, village alkolos, community elders and leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, religious leaders and other key stakeholders from Foni Berefet, Bintang, Kansala, Bondali and Jarol will also gather at the same venue on 9th November 2022 to discuss the same topic.
Hon Ousman Bojang, Governor of the region will be the special guest of honour for the event. Dates are 8th & 9th November 2022. Similar peace campaigns are expected to be staged by the famous TV talk show hosts in the region in the future.
The desired outcome of the campaign is to find lasting peace, embrace and always employ dialogue and other peaceful means in conflict resolutions, as well as ensure non-violent transformation and the consolidation of lasting peace.
Seedy Sheriff Ceesay who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coastal Security and Coastal Enterprise said citizen engagement is vital in ensuring a peaceful society.
According to Ceesay, lasting peace requires prolific, varied, innovative and often creative approaches to building culture of dialogue within our society.
The TV talk show host noted that the media has a larger following than any single political entity in The Gambia, adding that it is possible for an entity with such a huge following to rally Gambians to adopt peaceful coexistence, dialogue and solutions seeking mechanisms.
He pointed out that previously the media has been accused of complacency in preaching peace and having political leaning. Therefore, he said the media must take an active role to promote peaceful co- existence by fostering and directly encouraging peace, love and unity in line with our national anthem.
“The lessons of Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) were there for all to see and learn from,” he stated, saying:“Some of these mistakes should not have happened or be repeated.”
