“I was away in a nearby village. On my return, I saw flames climbing over my local fence. The wind made it impossible to control, and the fire forced its way into my compound,” Bah said, further claiming: “The inferno consumed all of my farm produce for the year, including groundnut, maize, millet, and rice, along with my children’s school books, bags, and other valuable documents.”
“I depend entirely on my farm harvest to feed my family. Everything has been reduced to ashes. I contacted the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service, but before their arrival, nothing was left,” he explained, visibly shaken.
Bah described himself as being in “a stage of dilemma and confusion” and urgently appealed for assistance. He called on the government, philanthropists, NGOs, and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) to intervene and support his family during this crisis.
The fire has left the family without shelter, food supplies, or educational materials, compounding their vulnerability as the dry season intensifies across rural Gambia.
