“Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everylasting joy will be yours.” (Isaiah 61:7)
As you look back at 2025, I wonder what is it that you have lost on the way? Did you suffer any physical injuries that have totally crippled your progress? Have you faced giant disappointments or delays regarding the plans that you had laid out at the start of the year? What mountains have you had difficulty climbing? Has any major obstacle deterred your progress? Have you registered any hiccups in your professional career?
This is not new! David and his men left Ziklag where he resided; when they returned the Amalekites had burned it down and had taken their families captive - the women, the young and the old and carried them away. But none was killed.
Imagine the shock on their faces! David’s men were so distressed they would have stoned him because “…each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. The men wept aloud until they had no more strength left.” (1 Samuel 30:4) In the midst of this calamity, “David found strength in His God.” (v6) He prayed. Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them? (v. 8) The Lord replied: “Pursue them, you will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.” (1 Sam. 30:8b)
David and his men were warriors but this time around they decided to enquire of the Lord. They did not go in their own strength. They consulted the One who holds the future for confirmation through prayer and their prayer was answered. I want to exhort us to leave everything in the hands of the Lord. “David recovered EVERYTHING the Amalekites had taken…nothing was missing. …. David brought everything back.” (v18-19)
And so would we in 2026. Through constant prayer, all that the devil had stolen from us shall be recovered
