‘Gambia’s democratic space under President Adama Barrow is boundless’

The Communication secretary of the National People’s Party has stated the current democratic space under President Adama Barrow is boundless and there is zero interference in the judiciary.

Sulayman Camara made this disclosure recently at a presser convened by the National People’s Party at its Churchill’s Town secretariat.

“The Gambia’s democratic space under President Barrow is boundless and there is zero interference in the province of the judiciary. This has been demonstrated on numerous occasions and all of you representing your various media houses are witnesses to that,” he stated.

Camara however, claimed that the leader of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has said that ‘if the results of the upcoming election are not tabulated properly’, they will announce their own results. This, he added, is quite unfortunate as he is trying to undermine the integrity of the country’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

He opined that the UDP is a spent force and on life supporting machine, noting that this was manifested in last presidential elections.

He maintained that NPP is a progressive people’s movement and a party of peace, hope and inclusiveness, where all opinions are respectfully counted.

The Gambia’s democracy, he added, has come of age and they have nurtured a mature and independent judiciary, where people can seek redress whenever they feel that their rights have been threatened.
