The medical items which include face masks, hand sanitisers and wheelchairs mark another chapter in Mr. Taal's on-going support for his hometown, a commitment that began during the Covid-19 pandemic. The items were received by the Mayor of Banjul City Council.
The Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, who was speaking during the presentation of the donated items underscored the significance of the donated items.
Mayor Lowe hailed the donor for his continued support to the people of Banjul. The donated items, she went on, would go a long way towards improving quality health care in Banjul. “We have recognised your continued benevolent gesture to inhabitants of Banjul and the council in general. Therefore, I want to urge other Gambians to emulate the donor in supporting the development of Banjul.”
The BCC Mayor also extended her appreciation to Kitim Jarju, highlighting their consistent contributions that have greatly benefited the Banjul community.
“The medical items and equipment will go a long way in assisting those in need,” she emphasised.
She further called upon other Banjulians living abroad to follow Mr. Taal's example and contribute whatever they can to help their own community.
For his part, Bai Taal, the donor shared his deep connection to Banjul, describing it as integral to his identity, having spent a significant portion of his life there.
Taal, who for the past six years has been a steadfast supporter of Banjul, expressed his gratitude to Mayor Lowe for her openness and dedication to the city's progress, adding: “It is my duty to continue to the development of Banjul.”
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BCC, Modou Jonga, thanked Mr. Taal for his generous donation and on-going commitment to the city. He acknowledged the positive impact that such support has on the community and expressed hope that others would be inspired to give back to Banjulians.
“This latest donation underscores the importance of Diaspora contributions in fostering the development and well-being of communities in Banjul and beyond,” he said.
