During the dialogue, The Gambian delegation updated the UN Committee on the progress being made in the implementation of the Convention, especially on the current constitutional, legislative and institutional reforms undertaken by the government; the challenges faced and the action plans identified to implement the convention’s provisions across all sectors of the country.
Whilst bearing in mind that the Convention was incorporated into the Women’s Act 2010 in order to empower and advance women and children's rights in The Gambia, the Ministry of Gender takes this opportunity to remind all government departments, agencies, organs, public and private institutions to ensure that the rights and legal status of women are promoted and protected from abuse and violence by all whether in corporations, organisations, or institutions.
