At the event, Everit Baniesy Bangura, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Footprint Afrika, outlined the organisation’s primary focus, which he said, revolves around child empowerment, particularly girls.
“There is a widespread belief that women should be limited to the kitchen. At Footprint Afrika, we reject this narrative. We believe women are talented and creative when supported and empowered,” Mrs. Bangura stated.
She also announced plans to launch a film titled ‘Only She Knows’, which aims to showcase how young girls can thrive through talent and determination.
Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu, President of the Film Producers Association of The Gambia, hailed the initiative as something that will greatly empower young people.
“Culture lives through young people and passes from one generation to another. Activities nurturing the next generation are a vital way of preserving our culture,” he said.
Mr. Sankanu also emphasised the importance of engaging young children in filmmaking and production, noting that the sector has significant potential to create opportunities for youth.
The event concluded with a fundraiser supporting the three projects Footprint Afrika aims to launch. Attendees contributed funds, while performing artists were certified for their participation during the night’s program.
