This year’s event, hosted at Kotu Senior Secondary School, saw the participation of over 20 schools and youth organisations, exemplifying the dedication and brilliance of Gambian students.
In the Qur’anic Competition, Horaya Academy secured the top spot in the Lower Basic School category. Additionally, Yunus Sindeeqe Islamic Institute showcased commendable performances in the same category.
Kunting Islamic Institute claimed the prestigious award for the first position in the Upper Basic School Qur’anic Competition. Besides, the competition also witnessed participation from Yunus Sindeeqe, Nemasu Upper Basic School, Alieu Badara Jallow Memorial and Latrikunda Sabiji Upper Basic School.
Among the Senior Secondary Schools, Mingdaw Senior Secondary School emerged top in the Qur’anic Competition, followed by Sheikh Hamdan Senior Secondary School in second place, and St. Peter's Senior Secondary School securing the third spot.
In the Speech Competition for Upper Basic Schools, Yunus Sindeeqe Islamic Institute clinched the first position, while Alieu Badara Jallow Memorial Upper Basic School earned the second spot, and St. Peter's Upper Basic School, who demonstrated their talent with a remarkable grand style, secured third place.
The Senior Secondary School category witnessed keen competition, with Mindaw Senior Secondary School standing out as the winner in the Speech Competition.
Nusrat Senior Secondary School earned the second position and Kotu Senior Secondary School, whose particpants impressed the audience finished third.
Other senior schools that showcased their eloquence were Masroor Senior Secondary, Nemasu Senior Secondary, Sheikh Maskah Senior Secondary, St. Peter's Senior Secondary, Sheikh Hamdan Senior Secondary, and Alieu Badara Jallow Memorial Senior Secondary Schools.
The Speech Competition for Tertiary institutions and Youth Organizations drew keen performances from eleven contestants. Da'wah Team Organisation showcased excellence and took home the first-place prize, with Students Islamic Solidarity Association (SISA) securing the second position.
Islam For All (IFA), Smart Professional College, and Young Da'wah Association shared the third position.
Other participants in the highly competitive category were the University of The Gambia Muslim Students Association, Muslim Youth Charity Foundation, Hamsa Deen - Iqra, Islamic Solidarity Association, Sister's Charity Foundation The Gambia (GSCF), and International Open University (IOU).
Participants received handsome prizes and certificates for their exceptional performances. The prizes for the top three winners in each category included cash awards and other valuable learning materials to motivate the young talents.
Dr. Pasamba Secka, president of FEGAMY, Omar A Bojang, chairman of the FEGAMY board of directors, expressed delight in witnessing students deepening their connection to their faith through the competition.
The duo further encouraged the leadership to continue nurturing an environment of healthy competition, inspiring the youth to shine and motivate others through their dedication and passion for the Qur'an and effective communication.
Cherno M. Jallow, who represented the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, encouraged both the organisers and participants to remain dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. He assured the ministry's unwavering support in empowering the youth through higher education.
The 2023 National Inter-School Qur’anic and Speech Competition concluded on a high note characterised with celebration and words of wisdom.
