Doune Lounge, a new Turkish restaurant, has officially opened its doors in Bijilo, opposite Brusubi Phase 2, bringing authentic Turkish flavours to The Gambia.

The grand launch was attended by Turkish diplomats, the Minister for Tourism, the National Assembly Member for Banjul North, and visiting tourists—highlighting the growing cordial relationship between The Gambia and Türkiye.

The restaurant offers a wide range of traditional Turkish dishes prepared with authentic methods, all served in a modern and stylish setting.

Dennis Alvarez, CEO of Doune Lounge, said the restaurant aims to share Turkish culture with Gambians while providing a unique dining experience.

“Doune Lounge is more than just a restaurant. It is a cultural bridge. Our Turkish foods, bakeries, and even coffee with real gold are designed to connect people and cultures,” Alvarez explained.

He emphasised that the restaurant is not only a leisure spot but also a hub for community and professional gatherings. “Turkish breakfasts on Sundays are already a hit with families. We also cater for business meetings, social events, and celebrations,” he said.

Alvarez credited his brother as the mastermind behind the restaurant’s success, noting their shared commitment to quality food and cultural exchange.

Beyond cuisine, Doune Lounge is contributing to The Gambia’s socio-economic development by creating jobs for 47 Gambians.

“This is about more than food—it’s about hospitality, culture, and opportunity. Doune Lounge is bringing a taste of Turkey to The Gambia while supporting local livelihoods,” Alvarez added.

The opening marks another milestone in strengthening ties between The Gambia and Türkiye, with food and culture serving as a powerful link between the two nations.
