Up to 1,922 families are to benefit from the organisation’s Ramadan annual package for 2023, out of which 480 people have already benefited from the aid of foodstuffs.
Furthermore, 110 orphans that were not registered were also provided with clothing and 1200 are expected to benefit from the charity’s 2023 Iftar.
Briefing the media, Musa Jallow, country coordinator for CHRO-Gambia, said they had already given 25% of the Ramadan food package at the start of the Ramadan at Kerr waka village of Njau district in Upper Saloum. “The remaining 75% is also expected to be distributed before the end of Ramadan,” he added.
CHRO-Gambia, in collaboration with their donors, also plans to give Eid clothes and shoes to less privileged families in The Gambia.
Due to the high cost of food commodities, they had to focus on what the beneficiaries need more during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the organisation said. Among the challenges the charity faces are overcharging of fares by truck drivers to transport or drop the food items to the provinces.
