Charles Jow Memorial Academy holds graduation ceremony

Charles Jow Memorial Academy on Satursday held its 2023 graduation and prize giving ceremony at its school ground.

In attendance were deputy Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Binta Janneh Jallow, KMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paa Sait Ceesay, Vice Chairperson of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) Omar Jallow, Guest Speaker Momodou Sabally,  former Mayor of KMC Lie Conteh, representative of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) on the Board Mariama Chow, newly appointed members of the Board of Governors - Justice Fanding Taal as Vice Chair and Tombong Saidy as Board Treasurer, among others.

Essa Sowe, chairman Board of Governors at Charles Jow Memorial Academy in his opening address congratulation congratulations students on their academic successes – the culmination of many years of dedication and hard work.

“You have endured and overcome all obstacles, distractions and challenges of your youthfulness and focused on your academic pursuit with commitment,” he told them.

Mr Sowe pointed out that education is about growth and not just about grades. 

“Your commitment, resolve, discipline and endurance to complete your secondary education tells the world that you are ambitious, passionate and tenacious,” he added noting that these are excellent qualities, equipping them to make a difference to changing lives and shaping society for the better.

“In a fast-changing society, you need to be patient and confident, expect the unexpected, embrace new challenges and explore opportunities that come your way and always remember that no matter what achievement you make, there is always a next level,” he advised them.

Chairman Sowe appealed to Kanifing Municipal Council to consider  with a Social Security Scheme - a D10M Revolving Fund for 20 teachers contracting D500,000.00 to either start constructing their homes, or those who have started to have a roof over their heads.

He also appealed for a Sound Scholarship Scheme for their graduating students, saying this will enable them prepare students who would take up teaching as a career or graduate as development experts to consolidate the staff at the school and Council as a Succession Plan.
