The annual support was part of the association’s contribution in assisting imams within the region during the holy month of Ramadan.
The distribution of the materials held at the Brikama Central Mosque and coordinated by Ebrima Cham is also meant to support the imams and their families as the holy month of Ramadan intensifies.
Ebrima Cham, a representative of the non-profit organisation in his remarks at the distribution point explained that the association was established and registered in the state of New York in 2015.
Mr. Cham added that the goal of the association is to support the people of Brikama in their education, health, sports and religious development efforts.
According to Mr. Cham, “the Brikama Diaspora Association is here to stand with the people of Brikama and render valuable support whenever needed to ease daily life challenges for all in the town.”
Cham reminded the gathering that the gesture was not the first by the US-based association towards the community.
Mondeh Jatta, chief of Kombo Central, commended the association for supporting the imams. He observed that the donation came at the right time. He described the holy month of Ramadan as a month of caring and sharing with needy people.
He also spoke at length about the importance of providing food aid to our brothers and sisters in Islam during the month.
He cited the important role imams play in society, noting that since imams do not receive salaries, they need to be considered and supported during such times.
