The two-day event was part of the activities of the UNFPA with funding from advocacy project on Women’s Political Participation and implemented by Action Aid The Gambia.
ActionAid International The Gambia is an international Civil Society Organisation that has been operating in The Gambia since 1979, working towards improving the lives and livelihoods of people living in poverty.
The organisation has been providing opportunities to thousands of Gambians in eradicating poverty through human rights-based approach to development.
At the event, Tabou Njie Sarr, women's right advocate manager at Action Aid The Gambia, revealed that AAITG in partnership with UNFPA, is implementing a project aimed at increasing the national capacity to advocate for and deliver evidence-based programs targeting marginalised women and girls, including those at risk of female genital mutilation, child marriage, gender-based violence and women's political participation.
“The project will also develop advocacy messages on women’s inclusion in community leadership, raise awareness on the importance of women leadership in decision-making processes and position.” she said.
Modou Lamin Touray, communication officer of Action Aid The Gambia, disclosed that at the end of the workshop, they expect participants to come up with very strong, catchy and realistic messages that will enhance ActionAid's advocacy work particularly on women's political participation and in all decision making processes.
