ACCFA holds Annual General Meeting

The Association of Customs, Clearing and Forwarding Agents (ACCFA) over the weekend held its annual general meeting (AGM).

Officials said the AGM, which was held at the NaNA conference hall, was meant among others, to take stock of their progress, challenges, and discuss the way forward in the best interest of the Association. 

Speaking at the forum, the President of the ACCFA, Essa Wally, said: “The year under review has been a year of transformation both at the customs level and our work as clearing agents.”

He also informed the ACCFA members that GRA was able to meet their annual revenue targets of D19.2B for the years 2023 to 2024.

Wally added: “I can proudly say that the clearing and forwarding agents are the main drive that has facilitated and complemented customs efforts in meeting their targets.”

He further underscored the importance of the clearing and forwarding agents in the supply chain market of world trade in sea and air freight.

He cautioned ACCFA members to be "very mindful of their day-to-day activities", adding: “Our task is to facilitate and complement customs efforts in collecting revenue for the government.”

“Therefore, these initiatives can only be undertaken successfully if there is also an attitudinal change.”

“We must work together in order to achieve our desired goals.”

“We are an organization that currently employs about 800 people. All these people are working towards achieving our priorities.”

He calls on its members to exercise discipline and professionalism in the performance of their job. 

He highlighted some of the challenges faced in 2024, which, are a result of “some of its members who were engaged in dubious activities”, something he said has been putting the association in the spotlight, especially with people in the Diaspora.
