40 Records Personnel train on record management principles, others

At least forty (40) Records Personnel from various Government institutions recently concluded the 19th In-Service Training Programme which lasted for four-weeks at Management Development Institute (MDI), Kanifing.

Organised by the National Records Service (NRS) under the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) in collaboration with MDI, the four-week capacity building exposed participants to a range of topics notably: Records Management Principles and Concepts, Records Office Procedures, Semi-current Records Management, Archival Services, among a host of others.

At the closing ceremony, Sillah Conateh, principal trainer at MDI, on behalf of the Director General of the said institution, commended NRS senior management for their collaboration with MDI.

“We expect that when you (participants) will go back to your various institutions and serve as MDI ambassadors. Let people know that you acquired new skills from these 4 weeks training course.” Mr. Conateh advised. 

Mr. Burama Jammeh, a Consultant at MDI, reminded participants of their crucial role in their various institutions, saying their work benefits Gambians and the whole world in general.

“You came here to learn new knowledge. MDI and your ministry are expecting lots from you, because your participation in this training is to equip you and deliver well in your work area.”

He explained that during the training, participants were exposed to Civil Service Ethics and Code of Conduct, Civil Service Management and the Structure of Government among others.

Head of the Current Records Directorate at NRS, Maimuna Janneh revealed that the training covered a comprehensive range of topics like: Records Management Principles and Concepts, Records Office Procedures, Semi-current Records Management, Archival Services, Electronic Records Management, Vital Records Plan (Disaster Plan), Records Security and Privacy, Writing Skills (Reports, etcetera) and Customer Care (Records Office- User).  

She said during the training, participants went through practical exercises, industrial attachment (3-day), and interactive sessions so as to enhance their learning experience.

“Recognizing the significance of continuous professional development, we believe that providing training opportunities of this nature to our records personnel was timely.” she said.

Bartholomew Bartha Marong, Director at National Records Service also spoke at the ceremony.

Similar training is on course at MDI targeting 48 heads from Records Offices.
