2 Books authored by late eminent scholar Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye launched

Two of the masterpiece literary works by eminent scholar Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye of Busura village were recently launched at a religious ceremony held in Busura. The two, are among 80 collections of his unpublished literary works.

 Also, the first book is an essential educational tool designed to simplify classical Arabic grammar. Recognising the challenges most students face in mastering Arabic grammar, the author organised the words in poetic form; a traditional method to make memorisation and comprehension more accessible. In essence, the author successfully clarified intricate grammatical rules reflecting his commitment to preserving and disseminating linguistic knowledge. On the other hand, the second book is a complete jurisprudential poetry work is an exceptional combination that matches scholarly rigour of Islamic jurisprudence with elegance of classical Arabic poetry. This book stands as testament to the late Islamic scholar’s immense contribution to West African Islamic scholarship offering vital tool of knowledge presented in poetic form to facilitate learning and memorization.

At the book launch, Pa Alieu Badara Faye, alkalo of Busura, described the day as another significant milestone in the field of knowledge and understanding of Islamic jurisprudence (figh) and a student’s bridge in Arabic grammar.

“It is with great honour that we launch the remarkable works of Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye, a luminary in our community, whose contribution to Islamic scholarship are profound and far-reaching. Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye has dedicated his life to the study and dissemination of Islamic knowledge. His passion for jurisprudence and grammar is evident in the meticulous research and profound insights that characterise his writing. These books are not merely academic texts, they are beacon of guidance for those seeking to navigate the complexities of modern life through the lens of Islamic teaching.”

In these works, Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye addresses issues that resonate with our contemporary society. He described his skilfully intertwines of traditional scholarship with modern challenge, providing readers with the tools to apply Islamic principles effectively.

“His ability to articulate complex ideas in an accessible manner is a testament to his deep understanding of both the sacred texts and the realities face today.”

 Also speaking, Habib Faye, president of the Alieu Badara Faye Charitable Foundation revealed that the foundation was established on 19th September 2022 to revive the legacy of the late erudite Islamic scholar.

Thus, since its establishment, the foundation has been working tirelessly and collectively to ensure that some of the books he authored are  typed in the computer, adding that they were able to print 1500 collections of his works in Egypt as first batch.

Those books, he added, are good and fit for reading, expressing optimism that students and even non-students alike will gain knowledge in reading these books.

He lamented some of their challenges, which he said includes financial constraints. As a young foundation the vision is to print second batch of the books in not-too distant future.

“Therefore, I hereby plead and calling individuals, businessmen and philanthropists, academic institutions to come to our aid in accomplishing our mission.”

He lauded their Khalifa General Sheikh A. Baba Faye for his financial contributions to the foundation.

For his part, Dr. Cherno Omar Barry, president of Writers Association of The Gambia, described the books as excellent masterpieces by revered late scholar Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye.

The event, he said, is not just a celebration of books, but a recognition of a legacy that carries a weight of history; richness of scholarship and the debt of cultural identity.

He described the late revered scholar as just more than a scholar, but a bridge between generations and a torch bearer of knowledge and perseverance of values that continues to define us as a people.

This book stands as testament to the late Islamic scholar’s immense contribution to West African Islamic scholarship offering vital tool of knowledge presented in poetic form to facilitate learning and memorisation. The book is a carefully created collection of Sheikh Alieu Badara Faye’s poetic work on various aspects of Islamic jurisprudence covering various topics such as ruling on mosques, marriages, inheritance among a host of others.”

Other speakers included Dr. Abubacarr Sillah and Dr. Bakary Jaiteh, who all described the book as essential education tools that will be of immense importance to Arabic students in the country and beyond. The event was graced by the caliph of Busura, Sheikh Baba Ebrima Faye, who also prayed for the gathering, venerable Islamic scholars and a cross section of the community of Busura and beyond.
