The University of the Gambia Student Union (UTGSU) recently paid a visit to the Nyang-Sanneh institute for Social research and Justice (NSI) to converse on potential areas for partnership and collaboration.

Issues discussed were centred around capacity building, mentorship programmes, research support, panel discussions, seminars and the enhancement of inclusivity in The Gambia.

Fortunately for both parties, an agreement was reached for the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will lay out the foundation for a long-term collaboration.

Established in December 2022, the body is named after two distinguished globally renowned US academics of Gambian origin, Sulayman S. Nyang, formerly of Howard University, and Dr. Lamin O. Sanneh, formerly of Yale University.

The independent nonprofit organization embodies a research and dialogue platform and seeks to further causes for peace, human rights, justice and others. It is also committed to the production and dissemination of knowledge to not only shape young minds but also inform policies for a better and more inclusive society.

It also supports young people through mentorship, career counseling, networking and leadership development and other activities.

Due to its objective and mission, the non-profit body was perceived as an ideal partner for engagement by the recently elected executive of University of The Gambia Student Union, which continues to make its presence felt, forging ways to not only further student affairs but be a catalyst for general societal change.
