Trust Bank on Monday began its annual donation to various hospitals in The Gambia.
The magnanimity began with a presentation of valuable items worth D250, 000 to the Tanka-Tank Psychiatric Hospital as part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

Items donated to Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric hospital include secondhand clothing, electrical materials, refrigerator and detergent among others.

The gesture was also extended to the Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital (BMCH) which currently has almost 4958 deliveries. Trust Bank also presented other items such as plastic chairs, buckets, water dispenser, detergent and air fresheners among others worth D200, 000.

Speaking earlier at the Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, Njilan Senghore, the managing director for Trust Bank, recalled that the Bank celebrated its 26th anniversary of continuous growth and success since commencing operations in October 1997.

According to her, the Bank believes that while growing, it is their duty to give back to the communities which she said form the cornerstone of their success.

“Our aim is to give back in a structured and sustainable manner that ensures the greatest positive impact to the beneficiaries. To achieve this, we carry out a need gap analysis with target hospitals to be able to accurately measure areas where our support is most needed. This enables us to deliver supports that are relevant and impactful to the hospitals.”

Speaking further at the BMCH, MD Senghore said the donation comes at a crucial time when the demand for quality prenatal and postnatal care is on the rise. “Maternity Ward is the heart of any hospital, offering a safe and secure environment for mothers to bring new life into the world,” she said.

“It is our responsibility as corporate citizens to ensure that this important facility has the necessary resources to provide exceptional care and support for mothers and their newborns,” she continued.

She advanced that the presentation is within their strategic objectives of complementing government’s efforts to ensure that no mother should die while giving life and that no child should die at birth from preventable causes; and that quality health services will be accessible to their various communities.

For his part, Bakary Ceesay, a matron at the Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, narrated that the Psychiatric Hospital has existed for many years with a previous name: Kampama in Banjul.

He revealed that from the year 2006-2009, Kampama has been renamed Tanka-Tanka with funding from a philanthropist through the help of The Gambia government.

He stated that Tanka-Tanka has 150 bed capacity. Ceesay informed that they currently have 76 patients.

He thanked Trust Bank for the gesture and assured that the items would be put best use.

Dr. Mamadi Cham, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital, said that his relationship with Trust Bank dated since 2012 at Farafenni Hospital.

He thanked the management and leadership of Trust Bank for its concern on the health of the people of The Gambia, while hailing the long term and fruitful relationship between the two institutions.

“Trust Bank is the only Bank which I can say has been annually donating to public facilities across the country. That is something worth to be recognised,” he said, adding that the donation was highly needed at the BMCH Maternity Unit.
