"This is due to the petitions filed by some candidates with the PPP electoral commission, citing constitutional violations during their national extraordinary congress and seeking redress," he said.
Honourable Jallow was speaking at a press briefing on Thursday.
He said the petitions had temporarily delayed the official handing-over process to allow the commission sufficient time to review and resolve the stated irregularities and resolve the dispute.
"As the body constitutionally mandated to oversee congress process and dispute resolution, the commission will communicate its findings in due course," he stated.
Honourable Jallow also reassured all party members that “the PPP has a robust internal dispute resolution mechanism in place” to address such matters.
"We have absolute confidence that the commission will do due diligence in addressing the matter that was brought before them with fairness and transparency," he assured.
He called on the party faithfuls and sympathisers, to remain patient and law-abiding while the matters are resolved. "Let us remain steadfast in upholding the values of unity, discipline and respect for due process, which form the cornerstone of their party,” he cautioned members.
He expressed his gratitude to the Central and National Executive Committee, the Congress and Local Organising Committee, the Party’s Electoral Commission, the delegates and the general membership of the party both home and abroad for their unwavering dedication, support, and efforts in ensuring a well-coordinated and successful elective congress held on 21 December 2024 at the King George V (KG5) grounds in Banjul.
