The move forms part of the bank’s strategy to reduce reliance on rented premises and invest in modern, owned facilities that reflect the quality of service customers deserve.
Speaking at the opening, Abolaji Yusuff, Managing Director of GTBank Gambia Limited, said the new branch demonstrates the bank’s commitment to investing in The Gambia and building for the future.
“This modern purpose‑built facility is more than just a new branch. It represents our confidence in the community we serve and our determination to provide banking facilities that meet the highest standards,” he said.
Yusuff stressed that the bank’s deliberate decision to own and develop its branch infrastructure carries a profound message.
“GTBank believes in The Gambia, and we are here for the long term.”
He added that the bank is putting down deeper roots in the communities where it operates.
“We are not simply building branches. We are building enduring platforms from which we can serve our customers, support businesses, and contribute to the development of our communities.”
The MD announced that before the end of 2026, GTBank plans to commission two additional purpose‑built facilities: one within the Kombo area and another to extend reach to provincial communities.
“This investment reflects our confidence in the Gambian economy and the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.
Yusuff emphasised that people are at the centre of the investment. “We are committed to providing our staff with safe, modern, and inspiring workplaces that enable them to perform at their best and deliver exceptional value. This facility has been designed to provide a modern, comfortable, and efficient banking experience.”
He also thanked the Government of The Gambia for maintaining peace, stability and an enabling environment for business, noting that for more than two decades customers have trusted the bank with their businesses.
“The new branch is, in many ways, a reflection of that relationship. It represents our commitment to bringing modern, world‑class banking closer to you,” he said, urging residents of Brikama and surrounding communities to make the branch their home for banking.
Sola Mahoney, Chairman of the Board of GTBank, noted that in 2027 the bank will mark 25 years in The Gambia. He contrasted GTBank’s expansion with a global trend of banks downsizing or exiting markets.
“Some banks are selling off and moving out of the country, while others are staying small and relying only on online banking,” he said.
Mahoney commended the government for creating an enabling environment for business to thrive, stressing that without stability, as seen in many countries across Africa, banks cannot grow, adding: “GTBank is choosing to invest, to build, and to grow with The Gambia.”
He also thanked regulators for maintaining a stable banking sector. “Without a stable banking sector, no bank would be willing to do what we are doing, which is to continue to invest, to continue their commitment.”
In his inaugural address, Ousman J. Bojang, Governor of West Coast Region, commended GTBank for the investment. He highlighted the strategic location of the region in promoting businesses of all types, describing it as a centre of the country.
GTBank commenced operations in The Gambia on 5 March 2002.
Miss Jobiz, a Gambian artist and songwriter and long‑time customer, also commended the bank on its new expansion.
