During the installation of the Pastef National Council, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko pointed to a "problem of authority" within the Senegalese state apparatus, a problem he considers profound and worrying. Speaking to his party officials, he declared: "Senegal is not experiencing a classic political crisis. What the country is suffering from is a problem of authority. If we continue like this, we won't even serve a single term."

In a trenchant speech, Sonko denounced the dysfunctions at the highest levels of government, reaffirming Pastef's combative line: "I am in the best position to say what the party's line has been. What is happening now is unacceptable." He revealed that he met with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to address these tensions: "I went to see him because he has the power to stop this if he wishes. The real question is: why hasn't he made a decision yet? If I were in his place, things wouldn't be happening this way."

Responding to those who try to sow discord between him and the head of state, Sonko clarified: "Those who want to portray me as the bad guy and him as the good guy are mistaken. Diomaye is my brother, my friend. I don't covet his position."

Expressing his annoyance at the obstacles to his government action, he declared: "Let me govern! Things will change because I cannot tolerate injustice." This warning was seen as an ultimatum to those who, inside or outside the state, would hinder his room for manoeuvre.

For Sonko, the solution lies in reforming Pastef's internal governance and revitalising its structures: "The party must function properly, with its regular bodies. The president and officials must discuss major decisions. The party must be informed of the essential actions of the state, because we are in power."

Meanwhile GFM reported that Prime Minister Sonko attacked the media, especially Youssou Ndour  media group GFM. "I will deal with them, and I urge members of my party not to have programme with them. For the civil society, he used abusive language against them and promised his government would enact a law to bar them from getting funds from overseas.

He also attacked the judiciary and denounced problems of authority in Senegal, which analysts believe he was referring to President Faye.
