Nyang-Sanneh Institute for Social Research and Justice (NSI) Wednesday held a career seminar for higher education students at the University of The Gambia in a move geared towards building their capacities in academic and life skills.

The capacity building event came on the heels of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NSI and the University of The Gambia Students Union (UTGSU) sealed  about two months ago.

The MoU was geared to serve as a catalyst for the beginning of a relationship geared towards knowledge dissemination and capacity building.

Key in the rationale behind the MoU is the provision of mentorship programs, seminars, furthering of human rights and justice and provision of training.

Established in December 2022, the body is named after two distinguished globally renowned US academics of Gambian origin, Sulayman S. Nyang, formerly of Howard University, and Dr Lamin O. Sanneh, formerly of Yale University.

The independent nonprofit organisation stands as a research and dialogue platform seeking to further causes for peace, human rights, justice and others through knowledge production and dissemination of knowledge to not only shape young minds but also inform policies for a better and more inclusive society.

Due to its objectives and mission, the non-profit body was perceived as an ideal partner for engagement by the recently elected executive of University of The Gambia Student Union.

The Union had extended its appreciation to participants for showing up to the event, “and we send our equal gratitude and appreciation to NSI for the good work of the Speakers of the seminar” who were invited on the behest of their Institute.
