Sanna Manjang, a member of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) who fled the country after the shock electoral defeat of former president Yahya Jammeh, is linked to an infamous assassination squad known as the "Junglers." He is accused of being one of the most brutal perpetrators involved in the heinous acts of disappearance, murder, torture, and sexual assault against individuals during Yahya Jammeh’s regime from 1994 to 2016.
A significant development unfolded when the police submitted a formal request to the court for a bench warrant. Assistant Superintendent E. Sarr filed this application, aiming to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Sanna Manjang to ensure his appearance in court for trial.
Superintendent Sarr reported that the police had received a communication from Interpol Washington, United States National Central Bureau, dated February 25, 2025. This correspondence requested that the Gambia Police Force supply a copy of the arrest warrant for the fugitive Sanna Manjang, along with the associated case reference number.
Magistrate Krubally approved the application and issued a bench warrant for Sanna Manjang's arrest, compelling him to appear in court to address the alleged charges against him.
The National Central Bureau of Washington, United States, has reached out to the authorities in The Gambia to inquire about the status of Sanna Maniang. They requested clarification on whether Sanna is still wanted, and if so, to furnish a copy of the arrest warrant.
"Dear colleagues, is Sanna Maniang still wanted by your country? If so, please provide a copy of the arrest warrant," the National Central Bureau stated.
