Tension gripped the Kanifing Magistrates Court on Monday as Buba Jallow, accused of killing mechanic Ebrima Njie in Latrikunda German, was dragged into court in handcuffs and remanded to Mile 2 Central Prison.

Eyewitnesses reported anger in the courtroom after Jallow, showing no sign of remorse, “insulted people as he was escorted from a police vehicle into the court building. His behaviour sparked outrage among those present, with murmurs of disapproval echoing through the chamber before proceedings began.”

Jallow is charged with murder contrary to Section 155, punishable under Section 156 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. He allegedly stabbed Njie in the mid-upper back with a knife on 29 June 2026, causing his death.

Prosecution’s Application

Chief Inspector Bojang, representing the Inspector General of Police alongside ASP S. Bah, told the court that the alleged offence is a capital crime carrying either life imprisonment or the death penalty upon conviction. He argued that the Magistrates Court lacked jurisdiction to hear such cases and applied for the matter to be transferred to the High Court.

He further requested that Jallow be remanded to Mile 2 Central Prison pending trial.

Court’s Ruling

Magistrate F. J. Camara agreed, ruling that the charge of murder placed the matter beyond her court’s jurisdiction. She ordered the case transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court and directed that Jallow remain in custody at Mile 2 until the trial begins.

The case, now under the jurisdiction of the High Court, is expected to draw significant public attention given the suspect’s conduct and the gravity of the charges.
